Welders and Related Machine Operators NOC 7265

Welders and Related Machine Operators NOC 7265

Regulatory requirements. Welders operate welding equipment for welding ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Machine operators who operate welding, brazing and welding equipment prepared in advance are also included in this group of units. They are employed by enterprises that manufacture structural steel, plates, boilers, heavy machinery, aircraft, ships and other metal products, and by welding contractors and welding shops. Welders and related machine operators can also be self-employed.

The welder performs some of the following tasks:.

Read and interpret diagrams or welding process specifications

Operation of manual or semi-automatic welding equipment for joining metal parts using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), metal gas arc welding (GMAW), flowing arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), and shielded metals. Arc welding (SMAW), oxygen and acetylene welding (OAW), resistance welding and submerged arc welding (SAW)

Operation of manual or semi-automatic flame cutting equipment

Operation of welding and welding equipment

Operation of metal forming machines such as brakes, Shears and other metal straightening and bending machines

Repair worn parts of metal products by welding on additional seams.

Welders may specialize in certain types of welding such as custom manufacturing, shipbuilding and repair, aerospace precision welding, pressure vessel welding, pipeline construction welding, structural construction welding, or machinery and equipment repair welding.

Welding and brazing machine operators perform some or all of the following tasks:

Operation of pre-prepared welding machines such as spot, butt and seam resistance or gas and arc welding machines for machining or repairing metal parts

Operation of welding or welding machines prepared in advance for joining metal parts or for filling holes, indentations and seams of metal materials with welding

Start, stop, adjust and control the automated welding production line

Assistance in maintenance and repair of welding and brazing equipment

Welding heads and tools can be adjusted according to the working specifications.

Business requirements

Welders

Completion of high school is usually required.

Completion of a three-year vocational training program is usually

Or A combination of more than three years of practical experience in trade and some university or industrial courses in welding is required to be eligible for a trade certificate.

Trade certification is mandatory in Alberta and available, but voluntary, in Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and Yukon.

The certificate of interprovincial trade (Red Seal) is also available for qualified welders.

Welding, brazing and welding machine operators

Some secondary school education is required.

Usually several months of on-the-job training are provided.

Experience as an assistant machine operator may be required.
