Main job duties:

Radiology technicians perform some or all of the following tasks:


Mri (CT) mri (MRI) for the production of radiographs or anatomical images of the human body for the diagnosis of disease or injury by radiologists

Registration and processing of patient data

Conducting basic verification and quality control checks on radiography and film processing equipment

Providing proper care to the patient during the radiological examination

Application of radiation protection measures

He may train and supervise radiology students or supervise other radiology technicians.

Radiology technologists may specialize in areas such as computed tomography, angiography, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, interventional radiology, dosimetry, stereotactic distribution or brachytherapy.

Nuclear medicine technicians perform some or all of the following tasks:


Prepare radiopharmaceuticals, such as radionuclides and other substances and give them to patients or to biological samples

Operation of radiation detection equipment, such as gamma cameras, scanners, flash meters, CT Densitometers, ionization chambers, to obtain data for use by nuclear medicine doctors in the diagnosis of the disease

Carrying out diagnostic procedures using radioactive substances on biological samples, such as blood, urine, feces

Recording and processing the results of actions

Checking equipment to ensure proper operation

Providing proper care to the patient during the examination

Application of radiation protection measures

He may train and supervise student nuclear medicine technicians or supervise other nuclear medicine technicians.

Radiation therapists perform some or all of the following tasks:


Operation of linear accelerators, cobalt-60, x-ray and other radiotherapy equipment for the administration of radiation therapy prescribed by radiation oncologists

Inspection of radiotherapy equipment to ensure proper operation

Assisting radiation oncologists and clinical physicists in preparing a radiation therapy plan

Assist in the preparation of sealed radioactive materials such as cobalt, radium, cesium and isotopes and the construction of devices such as plaster casts and acrylic casts to assist in the administration of radiation therapy

Monitoring the physical and psychological condition of the patient during the entire treatment period

Advising the patient on the side effects of radiation

He may train and supervise student radiotherapy technicians or supervise other radiotherapy technicians.

Recruitment requirements:

  1. Completion of a two-to three-year college, hospital, or other accredited program in diagnostic radiography (for radiology technicians), nuclear medicine technology (for Nuclear Medicine technicians) or radiotherapy (for radiotherapists) or Bachelor of Health Sciences in

  5. Supervised practical training is required.
  6. Licensing with a regulatory body is required in all provinces.
  7. Certification from the Canadian Society of medical radiation technicians is required in all provinces except Quebec.
