Can I Sponsor My Brothers and Sisters for Canadian Immigration?
We are asked this question many times a day. Canadian citizens and permanent residents after fulfilling the requirements to sponsor a family member can sponsor their parents. Your parents can include their dependent children (your brothers and sisters) in the immigration application to accompany them to Canada.
You may also be able to sponsor your brother or sister under the age of 18 if both of your parents are deceased.
Some Canadian provinces allow residents to sponsor brother and sisters under provincial nominee program. You need to meet certain criteria to be able to sponsor your siblings. The sponsored person must settle in the same province.
If you are considering to sponsor your brother or sister to immigrate to Canada, then we can assist your situation and suggest the best possible option suitable for your brother or sister for Canadian immigration. There are many other Canadian immigration options which do not require sponsorship. Contact us today to discuss all the possibilities for your siblings to come and live in Canada as permanent residents.
hi there.
i live in ontario, canada.
i sponsered my parents who lives in u.s. and with them i added my brothers name,as my father’s dependent, who is principal applicant on sponsorship and my brother is his dependent child under type A and my brother lives in india. when i sponsered, my brother was 21 of age and now he is 24,unmarried and either not working or studying right now.
so is it possible for my brother and my parents to come to canada?
Hi Divya: What is the status of your application to sponsor your parents which I assume you submitted about three years ago? If the security background and medical checkups have no issue, then your parents should be able to immigrate to Canada. However, you brother should be financially dependent on your parents at the time of finalization of application.
Ontario does not have any program to directly sponsor your brother.
Good luck

Hello Sat
It all depends on where does your sister live in Canada. Only some provinces allow the sponsoring of brothers and sisters. Please send us more details about you and your sister using the Contact Us page.

My husband’s sponsorship application is currently in process. I have been approved as his sponsor. Our file has been transferred to the visa office as of last week.
My husband has 1 brother who is 42 years old, single and a resident of the Philippines. Their parents have been deceased for years. Can we sponsor him?

Hello !
Congratulations that your sponsorship application has been approved at first stage and hopefully your husband will be with you in Canada soon.
I am assuming that you are resident of Ontario, Canada. It is not possible to sponsor him in Ontario. If you kindly provide us more information about your husbands’ brother using the contact us form, then I will be able to suggest possible option for him to come and live in Canada.

Hi my sister is approved permanent residency in canada and she is living in saskatchewan with her husband. Is it possible that she can sponsor me and my husband at the same time so both uf us can go there?
Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents who have lived in Saskatchewan for one year and are financially self supporting may sponsor an eligible member of family such as brothers and sisters.
If your sister or brother-in-law meets the requirements of a sponsor and you meet the program eligibility criteria, then you and your husband can get the permanent residency at the same time.
Hi,
I am a permanent resident of Canada, I live in Ontario. I have a full time job and I am married to a Canadian Citizen. I would like to know if I can sponsor my brother(20) and my sister(23). My brother is currently in Canada with a student visa for 1 year, learning english and my sister lives with my parents in Mexico.
Thank you!
The residents of Ontario cannot sponsor brothers or sisters as is possible in some of the Canadian provinces.
If your brother continues studies after completing English language course, then he might be able to apply for immigration as an international graduate student after meeting the basic requirements.
Hello.
I am a permanent resident of Canada, particularly in Ontario. I have a brother who is 26 years old, registered nurse, single. I know the fact that i cannot sponsor him because there is no such program here in Ontario. What is the best way i or he can do to get him here over in Ontario? I am willing to provide any help and support. I hope you can enlighten me with this. Thank you.
Your brother might be eligible to immigrate to Canada under FSW class as Registered Nurse (NOC3152) if he meets the requirements and score required pass marks of 67.
Hello Dr. Naveed,
I have a sister-in-law who is now a permanent resident of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada after migrating there 4 years ago. I’m 44 years old, married to his brother, age 48. We have 2 daughters, ages 16 & 12. I would like to know if my sister-in-law can still sponsor us under family stream program? My husband’s profession is a civil engineer while mine is a pastry cook. What is the best program in which we can apply for? Thank you.

Your sister can sponsor your mother if she meets the minimum income and other requirements for sponsorship. However, your mother will not be able to include you as dependent.

Your mother can sponsor her mother if your mother meets all the requirements as a sponsor. Her brothers and sisters may come to Canada as her mother’s dependent if they meet the criteria of “dependents”.
